Glimmers of Hope: The Stories Behind the Headlines
Each week during our collaboration meeting, we review stories from our Glimmers of Hope file. These are the moments that remind us to look beyond assumptions and listen closely to the real stories people carry.

The narrative we often hear from officials and in the news suggests that homelessness is simply the fault of the individual. It is a clean explanation. It is also incomplete.
For more than twenty years, Terry has listened to hundreds of stories that tell a far more complex truth.
Sometimes the path into homelessness begins with something that looks honorable. One recent client gave up everything to care for an aging and dying parent. When that parent passed away, there was nowhere left to go. Grieving. Exhausted. Alone. That is how homelessness began.
Stories like this challenge easy assumptions. They remind us that life can shift quickly, even when someone is doing something selfless and good.
Compassion and curiosity go a long way. When we take the time to listen instead of judge, space opens for healing. We are deeply grateful every time someone trusts us enough to share their real story. #SYMinJustWorks
