Supporters often ask thoughtful questions about the real impact of our work with homeless young people. Here are two we recently received—and how we answered them.

Lives Changed, One Step at a Time

Yes, we keep track of outcomes and hear back from clients whose lives have been transformed. Young people often share how their journey with SYM gave them the tools, encouragement, and faith foundation they needed to move forward:

Do you keep statistics on actual lives that have been changed?

Yes, we do—and even more importantly, we hear directly from clients about how their lives are improving. Many return to share their progress:

“I’m learning to advocate for myself more often.”

“I wasn’t always nice to you on the streets, but I’m a Jesus follower now!”

“I come back, even when I don’t need much, because it keeps my life grounded.”

We focus on young lives—guiding them as they discover who they are and recover from tough beginnings. While we meet practical needs like food and clothing, our main focus is on guidance and counseling.

Do you guide clients in prayer?

Yes, we encourage prayer with and for clients, and we help them pray for their own needs. We also take seriously the concern that “helping can sometimes hurt.” That’s why we set firm boundaries. We don’t want anything for a client more than they want for themselves, and we don’t do things for them—we guide them as they do it themselves.

This approach empowers clients, builds trust, and creates long-term change without enabling dependence.
