We moved at the end of last year, so we had some decisions to make about our learning clients where clients learn on our computer, attend small support group meetings, and do art therapy. These were in three tiny rooms on the third floor in our old space. Now we have three areas (in two rooms) dedicated to each of these things. The first room is our Computer Lab. It has table space for up to 8 or 10 laptops. Clients take courses to learn soft skills and people skills to help them get and keep jobs. In return, they are awarded SYMinU points, which they redeem for special items. The old computer lab struggled to seat five clients. Our group room offers very comfy couch seating for seven participants easily on one end. The old space was claustrophobic and offered seating for five clients in folding chairs. And finally, our art group area is on the other end of the room and feels very spacious with the bright windows! It offers lots of area to work, and far more diverse art projects are possible in our new space. Displaying finished products everywhere makes for a very homey group room where people can relax and share difficult or joyful things. Such improvements for our learning center are tremendous! This is where clients do some of their hardest healing and growing activities!
