(SYMin Top 10) No. 9: Special guest teachers visit art group
Art group allows clients to use their hands and express their creativity, which in turn often leads to deeper conversations. When their hands are doing something, it’s easier for them to open up.

This year our art group quickly became one of our clients’ favorites. Our clients made some really great projects (some drawings, some sculptures, some writing) throughout the year, many of which were published in editions of our client-run newspaper, Word on the Street. A few volunteers were also invited to lead students in special projects. Lisa Clarke, a dedicated and trusted SYMin volunteer for some time, led students on monthly projects — including tie dye and friendship bracelets. We also had UT students training in art therapy lead our clients through two different projects: journal decorating and dream bead making. We are grateful to have community members use their passions and skills to support our amazing clients.
